چکیده

Importance Age-related sensorineural hearing loss is a common health problem among adults. Nearly 16% of US adults 18 years or older report difficulty hearing. The prevalence perceived increases with age. Hearing can adversely affect an individual’s quality life and ability to function independently has been associated increased risk falls, hospitalizations, social isolation, cognitive decline. Objective To update its 2012 recommendation, the Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) commissioned systematic review on screening for in 50 older. Population Asymptomatic age-related loss. Evidence Assessment Because lack evidence, USPSTF concludes that benefits harms asymptomatic are uncertain balance cannot be determined. More research needed. Recommendation current evidence insufficient assess (I statement)

Screening for hearing loss in older adults.

The Task Force reviewed research studies on the use of screening tools to identify older adults who might have hearing loss. The recommendation summarizes what it learned about the potential benefits and harms of this screening: There is not enough evidence to determine whether screening helps people who are not aware of hearing loss or who think their hearing is worse but have not chosen to ta...

Hearing loss in older adults.

Hearing loss affects approximately one-third of adults 61 to 70 years of age and more than 80 percent of those older than 85 years. Men usually experience greater hearing loss and have earlier onset compared with women. The most common type is age-related hearing loss; however, many conditions can interfere with the conduction of sound vibrations to the inner ear and their conversion to electri...

Hearing loss screening tests for adults.

INTRODUCTION The early detection of hearing loss has been studied widely in newborns due to the emerging technologies for diagnosis and treatment. There are detailed protocols for this goal. Nonetheless, hearing loss screening in adults has become more important lately with the increase of the life expectancy, an expected change in the Mexican population pyramid towards a rectangular shape in t...

Audiovisual deficits in older adults with hearing loss: biological evidence.

OBJECTIVE To examine the impact of hearing loss (HL) on audiovisual (AV) processing in the aging population. We hypothesized that age-related HL would have a pervasive effect on sensory processing, extending beyond the auditory domain. Specifically, we predicted that decreased auditory input to the neural system, in the form of HL over time, would have deleterious effects on multisensory mechan...
